flash flood warning expires in eight minutes for sonoma county specifically in area in green around petaluma that is for penngrove stream which is overflowing its banks. we did get a little break light to moderate rain back in the area going to funnel into the stream and keep it at its bank full if not spilling out a little that's the key to the forecast, heaviest of the rain east bay the heart of the bay into the south bay still going to have waves of showers after this system winds gusting to 43 at sfo, only napa up around 30 everybody else starting to drop down fastest of the winds are starting to subside hopefully that means no more power outages. major delays bay bridge upper deck, power out there, this is metering lights they will not be turned on this morning because of this power outage, traffic very, very slow upper deck. behind the toll looks like here not such a bad delay, once you get past the tolls on the upper deck,

welcome back. 6:11. >> we continue on storm watch. kira klapper live in los gatos. >> reporter: good morning. just when we thought it couldn't get any worse the rain is pick up, the wind is picking up, it feel like you can see the rain is coming straight at us wind coming from every direction, sideways from the top, feels like it is coming from the ground sometimes. we have seen two transformers blow this morning. the main concern off of highway 17 the morning commute, traffic picking up, so are cars' speeds. you would think in weather like this, drivers would be taking heed, dryers are used

merchant seaman who suffered a serious head injury, 300 miles off the coast of mexico was able if get treatment at a san diego hospital due to quick work by the 129th rescue wing of the california air national guard based at moffett field this is air national guard video of the rescue of the seaman. you can see him being hoisted up by a rescue helicopter. the man was pulled off his vessel and flown to mexico, then put on a cargo plane to san diego where he was treated at a trauma center. two advocacy groups issuing new call on prisons to grant early releases to incapacitated and terminally ill prisoners. they are making the call on a new report released this morning the group says sometimes justice requires compassion, even for people who broke the law. they go on to argue keeping incapacitated and terminally ill prisoners behind bars is unfair and costly to the country.

federal authorities have a big warning for parents, be careful what you buy your kids. this year customs and consumer product safety commission have blocked a record number of dangerous toys from hitting store shelves some had electrical or choking hazards. customs officers testified a shipment of toys out of the book for lead contamination. >> showing a high content of lead in these rubber tires, something that children could inswreft and that would be harmful to their development. coming up, at 7:00, the red flags, what parents need to know before being toys. what need to know before you hit the roads really wet out there, really windy and lots of accidents. >> mike is just getting new rain totals. >> especially around santa cruz nearly an inch in an hour more than eight inches around the napa dam, very

we head through the mid-morning to afternoon hours we are still going to see waves of showers roll through, right now through about 9:00 is when the heaviest rain going to move through, 9:00 maybe a little late, just wanted you to know most commute is going to be tough, you can see the cold front moving through the heart of the bay at 7:00 over the next 45 minutes or so, through the north bay into the heart of the bay, notice how slowly it moves by noon, settled down -- [ unintelligible ] we don't see much yellow through the afternoon and evening, just persistent -- i wouldn't say persistent on and off light to moderate waves of showers that will roll through will keep things a pain as we head through the evening and through tomorrow, we'll see the same pattern roll through very moist and unstable, that next cold front, see it coming into the north bay sunday morning into the heart of the bay from about 7:00 to 10:00,

welcome back. 6:23 on the abc7 morning news. heavy rain around the bay area causing flooding concerns in the north bay, gusty winds toppling trees, power lines, thousands in the dark the penngrove creek in petaluma is an especially important point now. let's check in with katie marzullo. >> reporter: we are inching our way there we just arrived in downtown petaluma you can see lakeville street behind us rain steadier but later than in marin where we were earlier the ground is soaked, puddles everywhere. it is the national weather service that has issued a flash flood warning for here

in petaluma they are talking about the penngrove stream they say it has exceeded its flood stage and is rising continuing to rise when they issue a warning like this it means it is either already flooding or the flooding is imminent. main thing to remember if you are in these flash flood zones, do not drive through standing water or moving water, no matter how shallow it looks that is incredibleably dangerous that's how people get swept away and rescues need to be done. flash flood warning here in petaluma issued by the national weather says. we are headed to penngrove stream we hope to bring you pictures of that as soon as we get there. katie marzullo, abc7 news. 6:25. >> petaluma, east bay, south bay, you name it, the storm is hitting us hard. live team coverage continues at 6:30 the storm arrived last night rain has been falling steadily and hard in places at times, want gusts are incredible.

katie marzullo in petaluma with the warning about flooding there. crews around the bay area are expecting a busy morning cleaning up downed trees as wind and rain pick up and continue, rain not only saturates the ground it waters down trees making them prone to toppling over in these winds several downed trees in the past few days. over saturation, old oak they are big once the water gets in the leaves the weight tips 'em over. >> in marin crews chopped up a downed tree last night. north bay expected to bear the brunt of the rain through the weekend in santa rosa officials say they have a well designed drainage system to handle heavy flooding but the emergency operations center is ready for trouble just in case they say problems would likely be to the west of the city or southwest end of santa rosa. stay with abc7 news on air and

girl found after being missing for days. shyanne white was found on a bus in san francisco last night after walking away interest a car center tuesday evening. staff members followed her not fruitvale bart station but then lost her. the tribune reports it is not clear why staff didn't restrain or stop the girl when they were following her. white's father who lives in southern california says his daughter has been at that are for about six months. the at fate of same-sex marriage could be decided at the u.s. supreme court today. the justice will debate whether to let stand an appeals court ruling declaring prop 8, the ban, unconstitutional. if it lets that ruling stand same-sex marriage will be legalized within days. legal analyst dean johnson says it won't set a national precedent. >> only issue in front of the court in the prop 8 case, is whether or not california's proposition 8 violates equal

fremont to milpitas heavier rain around santa cruz where we had -- nearly an inch of rain between 5:00 and 6:00, strongest part of the storm this morning, off and on showers later this afternoon through saturday before storm number three comes in and makes it really interesting sunday morning thankfully most of us won't be on the roads like we are this morning because it is going to be almost as intense as what we are seeing now. front moving through the bay area, steadier, heavier more intense rain east bay and south bay to santa cruz and monterey bay from 7:00 until 9:00. 10:00 we start to see tapering, showers are still back-building behind this cold front staying through the afternoon, evening, overnight tonight he will lose a lot of intensity but they will be a nuisance will keep things wet through saturday afternoon. winds start to be an issue

saturday night into sunday morning ahead of this next cold front when the heaviest of the rains starts to move into the bay between 5:00 and 7:00 and exits out of the south bay by 1:00, a little clearing by the end of the day. rainfall amounts most impressive north bay 10 inches in the mountains, eight inches santa cruz mountains, four to eight inches north bay, the rest of us two inches in the south bay, six inches around the bay itself. once we get past sunday, monday we get a break, tuesday light rain in the north the west of us -- the rest of us will get light rain wednesday. very active on the roads puddling, flooding, high winds, very dangerous driving. back to the bay bridge, still working on getting the eastern lights back power outage this morning, no metering lights heavy on the lower portion by as you get to the incline section funneling to the upper deck once you get to the cantilever and towards the tunnel speeds pick up a little. still very slow behind the
